Bold, gestural strokes of deep red and brown surge across the canvas, cut through by a single dark pillar rising vertical and unshaken through the middle of it all. The energy here is raw and immediate paint dragged, layered, allowed to stay rough while figures barely emerge from the brown mass on the right, present but unresolved, like passersby glimpsed in motion. The pole itself becomes the only fixed point in a scene otherwise built on movement and urgency. There’s something almost visceral in the color choice: red pressing insistently beneath every other mark, brown figures caught mid-stride, dark strokes slashing across like power lines against a charged sky. A Street Pole doesn’t depict a street so much as its pulse the constant churn of bodies and energy anchored, however briefly, to something that doesn’t move.
